Editor's review
This can provide details of storage usage; space occupied by folders/ directories, etc.
This is a command line tool and can be automated to generate reports of disk space usage, network space hogs and very large folder trees. The results can be sorted and details of smaller file/folder usage can be suppressed. That way you get a uncluttered and clean report. The report will be in HTML format and supports full upward and downward scrolling. The present version works with both 16 bit and 32 bit versions of OS platform and supports long file names. When doing an inventory of all files/folders, this tool will help find if there are any duplicate application sitting in your storage and occupying space. Same is applicable for other files and folders too. The report also tells you, consequently, which are the items that are taking up most space on the storage.
You would be able to find any existing version of an application when trying to install one. This existing version then can be easily removed. As you are able to generate periodic reports (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) you would be able to see how the utilization is changing and if there is any pattern to it. The report data can be easily converted to tab delimited or comma delimited formats and fed into a spreadsheet for more sophisticate analysis and pattern finding. It is a command line tool thus is not the best tool for newbies. It will need a little getting used to. Most IT types, however, should be able to get productive fairly quickly. This is a good product and has many useful features. If you have a need, here is a good candidate for trying out.
